Don't just water the surface

It will come as no surprise that Water is essential for the healthy development of your lawn. Water helps to transport important nutrients which are absorbed from the soil. It’s proven that watering your lawn regularly helps to maintain the appearance, colour and strength of your lawn.

A common mistake when watering is to just wet the surface of the soil, when in fact the aim is to direct water to the roots. Watering just the surface can often damage your lawn, as the water will quickly evaporate in hotter seasons causing patches of discoloured grass which encourages disease and thatch build-up. As a general rule of thumb, heavy and infrequent watering is better than short watering on a frequent basis. This is because heavy watering really gets to the root of your grass, encouraging a stronger root system. Remember that soil types may vary, for instance sandy soils drain water quicker so require heavy watering more often.
